Introduction:
Are you planning to visit Tungnath Temple in 2023? So today, through this blog, we are going to share with you our experience of visiting Tungnath. This temple is one of the Panchkedar temples of Lord Shiva, located in Uttarakhand. "Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, and Kalpeshwar Mahadev"—all these ancient temples of Lord Shiva are known as Panchkedar.
Chandrashila Tungnath trek 2023
I was always thinking of the darshan of Lord Tungnath, and this thought always fascinated me! Tungnath Temple, which is one of the five Kedars dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Panch Kedar, is in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The third Kedar among them is the Tungnath Temple. This temple was built thousands of years ago by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata.
After many years of waiting, I finally got a chance to start this journey today. After so many years, I finally set out on the journey with some of my old friends. The beauty of the place was waiting for us!
Through this blog, I will share with you the my Chandrashila Tungnath trek experience in 2023 so that you can also know how to travel from Delhi to Tungnath in 2023.
Preparing for our memorable journey
No matter where you are going, it is very important to prepare first! We researched extensively before leaving, gathered information about the route, weather conditions, and gear required. So that we do not face any problems during our journey. Packing sensibly, we made sure we had comfortable trekking shoes, warm clothes, a sturdy backpack, and other essentials. Along with physical preparation, mental preparation was equally important, as trekking in the mountains requires stamina and flexibility. The distance of the Tungnath trek from Chopta is 3.5 km!
Starting Point: Delhi
After doing our preparations, we had already decided that we would leave Delhi for Rishikesh in the evening, and from there we would travel further! In the evening, I asked my friends where we would meet, and after talking to everyone, they all said that we would come by metro because there is a lot of traffic in Delhi in the evening by bus or taxi! I made my preparations, packed my bags, and took the metro from Noida to ISBT Kashmir Gate; the nearest metro station is Tis Hazari station.
Choosing the Route
After reaching Kashmere Gate, we all met, and let me tell you that Delhi to Rishikesh's total distance is 259 KM. Our bus was at 10:15 PM at night. We sat in the bus, and we asked the bus driver at what time we would reach Rishikesh. He said 6 in the morning, and we would reach by o'clock if there is no traffic on the way.
Journey from Delhi to Rishikesh
Our bus departed from Delhi for Rishikesh, and at night we stayed at many places in the bus. We were talking among ourselves about which places we should explore after going to Rishikesh. Everyone said Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, and many more places. One of our friends said that we would take a dip in the holy water of the Mata Gange, and we also agreed because the heat is very high in the month of May.
After resting at night, we woke up in the morning because we had now reached Yoga City in Rishikesh. It was 6:15 a.m., and we had already booked the hotel, In that hotel, we four friends stayed together.
One day stay in Rishikesh
After taking a room in Rishikesh, we took some rest and after resting for a few hours, at 9 o'clock everyone said that first let's take a dip in the water of Mata Ganga, then after that we will have breakfast outside and then explore Rishikesh. We took a dip in Ganga Ji and had breakfast, then we went towards Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula. Like this, we roamed all day, having fun, and in the evening
Went!
Witness The Divine Ganga Aarti
Ganga Aarti, also known as Maha Aarti, is an evening prayer performed on the banks of the Ganges. It is a major attraction of the Ghat, which attracts a large number of devotees and visitors. I felt very relieved by participating in the aarti here and kept chanting the name of Har Har Ganga!
The aarti was accompanied by the playing of hymns, drums, and bells, and people lit oil lamps, floated them on leaf boats filled with flowers, and released them into the holy waters of the river. In the evening, these shining lamps were looking so beautiful that the view cannot be described in words. You can see that experience by attending Ganga Aarti whenever you come.
Journey from Rishikesh To Ukhimath
The bus left for Ukhimath in the morning at 5:30 am. On the way, we were seeing many snow-capped mountains, which looked very beautiful. Seeing the greenery all around, the mind was getting relaxed, and the temperature was not as hot as Rishikesh. was in.
It was 2 o'clock in the day, and we had reached Ukhimath. We booked a hotel here for 700 rupees, which was very cheap compared to Rishikesh. We first had lunch here! After lunch, everyone said that we would leave from here tomorrow morning for Chopta because we had asked the hotel staff how we would go from here to Subah Chopta, and he said that the sharing taxi would drop you off in the morning at Chopta at the right time.
Here we went for an evening walk, and the weather and the view here were worth watching. We enjoyed it a lot. Let it happen!
Before it got dark, we came back to the hotel from the evening walk, had dinner, and then after that, the preparation for the morning started getting a little cold as the night started, which was also good for us to get relief from the heat.
We woke up at 5:00 am and started making our preparations to go to Chopta.
Ukhimath to Chopta
We took a shared taxi, which cost Rs 50 per person, and the taxi driver dropped us in front of the gate to climb Tungnath. The distance from Ukhimath to Chopta is 43.5 km, and it took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach here. We gave the money to the brother and chanted the name "Har Har Mahadev."
Chopta: The Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand
We started our journey at 7:30 in the morning. My Chandrashila Tungnath Trek Experience 2023 was very special because I was going to visit Tungnath for the first time.
After reaching Chopta, it felt like stepping into a fairy tale. Very beautiful; you can compare it with the name given to it, which is often called "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand".
I am already familiar with the beauty of the mountains because I am a resident of Uttarakhand and Pauri Garhwal. The lush green meadows surrounded by the towering Himalayan peaks create an unreal atmosphere.
Let us tell you that Chopta to Tungnath trek distance is 3.5 kms.
Reaching Tungnath: The Final Leg of the Journey
We started our trek to Tungnath at 7:30 am, slowly climbing up. The cold was increasing, whereas in Delhi the temperature was 40 degrees, and here, after climbing 1 kilometre, the temperature came down to 20 degrees. We took out warm clothes, and I started remembering my
Kedarnath Yatra 2023, which I had done in the month of April.
Everyone took out all the warm clothes they had because the wind was blowing cold, the sun was mild, and the snow-covered mountains all around were shining with the sun. There were also red flowers blooming from Chowpata to Tungnath, which was very good news and was motivating us to move forward on the way.
The trek to Tungnath tested our physical and mental strength. Because we were tired, I had a habit of climbing, but with me, they were just walking little by little; many people were also walking on the way, chanting the name of Har Har Mahadev. The narrow paths decorated with trees and prayer flags on all sides were taking me closer to God. I was also relieved that Tungnath distance is 3.5 km, and we will be able to see Baba Tungnath by crossing it. The sight of the majestic Himalayas standing against the blue sky filled me with a deep sense of humility and awe.
We started climbing at 7:30 am, and we had completed 5 hours by 12:30. Now the temple was visible from a distance and was giving peace to the mind.
Important note
Let us tell you that if you do not have cash, then you will get ATM in Srinagar / Rudraprayag / Augustmuni / Ukhimath. There is no ATM machine in Chopta, Ukhimath is the last ATM point. So withdraw the cash beforehand so that you do not face any problem later.
The Spiritual Experience at Tungnath
After climbing for hours, we finally reached Tungnath, and the view from here was very charming and heart-wrenching; the snow-covered hills were shining with the sun.
We visited Tungnathji, where the rhythmic chants and the aroma of incense sticks filled the air, creating an atmosphere of spiritual uplift. Standing in front of the divine temple of Lord Shiva, I felt a deep connection with something greater than myself. After all, my Chandrashila Tungnath Trek experience 2023 was very beautiful, and I will always remember this trip.
After seeing Lord Tungnath, everyone said, "Now let's go to Chandrashila." Let us tell you that the distance of the trek from Tungnath to Chandrashila is 1.5 km, and Tungnath temperature varies according to the season, so you should start your journey by looking at the weather.
Tungnath to Chandrashila
Chandrashila Peak is 1.5 km from Tungnath, where it took us one and a half hours to go. This place is about 4,000 metres (13,123 feet) above sea level. From here, you can see the panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges and the beauty of the snow-covered peaks like Nanda Ghunti, Kedarnath, Nanda Devi, Mount Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
Our minds were thinking that today we should just make a shelter here for the night, but where was it possible, Now I can hardly forget the beauty seen from here.
We took some rest there. We had batteries in our phones and powerbanks, so we could listen to songs, but today it did not come to anyone's mind that let's listen to songs; we were all lost in the eyes of nature.
Going back tungnath to Chopta to Ukhimath
It was already evening at 4:30 pm, so we wanted to go back to Chopta and take a taxi to Ukhimath. It was an inclined part of the trek, so we covered a distance of 5.5 km in about 2–2.5 hours. We reached Chopta in the evening. And from there, we got a cab to Ukhimath; it was 8:30 in the night, and the cab brother dropped us back at the Ukhimath Hotel!
Ukhimath to Rishikesh Rishikesh to Delhi
After coming to the hotel, we had dinner, and everyone was very tired. Our legs were also hurting a lot. We slept and woke up in the morning. We made our preparations to go to Rishikesh and from Rishikesh to Delhi.
The Chandrashila Tungnath Trek Experience 2023 was my first trip, but I really enjoyed my first experience full of adventure and wonder and saw so many beautiful views of nature. But there is always some trouble, like it was happening with us: suddenly the clouds covered, and the next moment the sky became clear.
I would definitely suggest you take some time out from your work schedule, come to this place to admire the beauty of nature, and spend some time living a stress-free life. I went on the Tungnat trek for the first time, and this trip to the heights of the Himalayas will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thanks for visiting us; please keep coming again.
